TONNAGE SURVEY

Tonnage Survey

We conduct tonnage surveys for vessels up to 24 metres, so that they can be registered under the British Registry of Shipping.

The Tonnage Survey is a measurement  survey  conducted with the vessel either in or out of the water and takes about two hours. It involves measuring the length, breadth and internal depth of a vessel to calculate a measurement known as the “Tonnage” which is related to the internal area of the yacht. It is not related to the displacement (weight) of the yacht as would be presumed by its name.

Once the survey is completed and everything is in order we fill out a certificate which we send signed (as an approved Tonnage surveyor) to the IIMS (International institute of Marine Surveyors) which then gets approval from them and will be sent on to the British Registry of ships with the customers application form which requires a separate fee to be paid by the customer for their services.

To make things simple we offer to pay the customers application fee and after filling out the customer application form we ask the customer to sign it.

We then send the customer application form with our Tonnage certificate for approval to the IIMS who on approval (and the fee paid to them) send it all directly to the British Registry of shipping.
